Japanese Cinema on the Net |
In 1995 and 1997, we were able to provide links to most of the film-related sites in Japan. However, now they number in the hundreds (perhaps thousands, if you count all the individual homepages with film-viewing diaries). The best jumping off point is Yahoo Japan's Movie page, which has separate categories for studios, directors, film music, actors, production companies, distribution companies, individual films, and so on. On our criticism page, we've listed online articles. Below are a few sites worth visiting.
Bun's J-Movie Fan---This Japanese-language site has a many filmographies, credits, film summaries, and links to film-related sites in Japan.
CineMagaziNet---An Impressive, bilingual online scholarly journal.
Digital Ramen---A wide variety of Japanese pop culture essays by a group of expatriate writers.
Documentary Box---Bilingual journal of the Yamagata Documentary Film Festival.
The Japanese Movie Database---Excellent database of credits (Japanese only).
Video Act!---A consortium of independent film and video makers with an online, bilingual catalog.
Yamagata Film Festival Database---Bilingual database of documentary print sources.
